After more than an hour-long discussion with public comments, a zoning change was approved on a piece of property that will ultimately house an apartment complex.
The 6.74-acre parcel of land will eventually contain an 80-unit apartment complex called Palladium Farmersville. The land is located on the west side of Brookshire’s behind O’Reilly Auto Parts.
In a unanimous motion by council, zoning for the land was changed from highway commercial to multi-family residence-2.
Cindy Dickens, whose family owns land near the property, went on the record during the June 26 city council meeting to state she was in opposition to the project.
“I don’t want to live next to an apartment complex,” she said.
Farmersville resident Johnnie Feagin also voiced opposition to the project stating that trespassing and other crimes will increase.
Councilmember Craig Overstreet mentioned that with the zoning change from highway commercial to multi-family, the change could be providing relief to surrounding neighbors since highway commercial could allow heavy truck traffic and a multitude of commercial establishments.
