Farmersville police investigating death

by | Dec 6, 2018 | Latest

An investigation into the death of James Benton, 65, of Farmersville has been launched by the Farmersville Police Department.

Benton, who lived in the 300 block of Haislip, was found dead in his home Saturday, Nov. 24.

According to information released by Police Chief Mike Sullivan, Benton was involved in a physical altercation with a family member Friday, Nov. 23 on Farmersville Parkway.

Another family member found Benton deceased in his home the next day.

“The medical examiner has verbally ruled this case a homicide, but we’ve haven’t received an official report yet. Our investigators have been keeping Mr. Benton’s family members updated as we proceed with an investigation in this case,” Sullivan said.

The chief reported that Benton had preexisting health issues, so investigators are working to see if injuries received during the altercation were associated with his death.

“We’ve also consulted with and are keeping the Collin County District Attorney’s Office appraised as we continue to follow up on this case,” Sullivan said.
