FJHS valedictorian, salutatorian named

 Administrators at Farmersville Junior High School have a unique way of preparing students for high school and encour­aging good grades: eighth graders get to compete for the titles of “valedictorian” and “salutatorian” four years before most other students do.

Ian Cortez took the top spot this year and Mariana Arteaga took the second. They earned their rank­ings by having the high­est combined averages for their core classes (English, math, science and history) for the first five grading pe­riods this past year.
