Annual parade, more this weekend

by | Dec 10, 2020 | Latest

The Christmas tree is trimmed, the parkway is lit, and now it’s time to usher in the season with a few more festivities.

If you happened to miss the first Movie in the Park, there’s one more opportunity.  Hosted by CBTx Friday, Dec. 11, the move will start at 6:30 p.m. at the park on South Main Street next to Historic Onion Shed.  Bring a chair, hot beverage and blankets so the whole family can enjoy the show.

On Saturday, Dec. 12, it will be a big day for festivities, starting with the annual Chamber of Commerce parade at 6 p.m. on the square.  The theme this year is Dr. Seuss so be prepared to look for Thing 1 and Thing 2, the Grinch, and many other favorite characters.  Whether you want to be a spectator or a parade participant, there’s still time to enter in a number of different categories including motorized, walking and marching group, equestrian, and floats and trailers.  The parade is free to enter.  Lineup starts at 4 p.m. and judging starts at 4:30 p.m.

Jim and Linda Foy will serve as Grand Marshalls.

Parade organizers want the event to be fun and safe and advise spectators and participants to be respectful, practice social distancing and wear a mask when required.

Immediately following the parade, the Farmersville Heritage Museum will host its own Sips & Savories with Santa event.  The Farmersville Historical Society will host its Historical Bain-Honaker Open House from 7-8:30 that night, while the Thaddeus Ford Jazz Quartet will play at the downtown gazebo starting at 8 p.m.

The Farmersville Parkway special light exhibit continues throughout the month of December.  Carriage rides will be available to the public, with a donation, on Friday and Saturday nights.
