Planning for future transportation needs

by | Feb 25, 2021 | Latest

Collin County is taking the lead in collecting data for a new transportation study focused on current and future needs in the east portion of the county.

The study will address and update needs and recommendations identified in the 2014 Collin County Mobility Plan Update.

Dallas, Rockwall and Hunt counties will also be included in the study to ensure a regional approach to transportation planning. The Future Mobility Study is an opportunity for Collin County to work with the public to keep communities connected and prepared to accommodate future population and employment growth.

The county is asking area residents and drivers in the counties included in the study to complete a survey on the study website at ccfuturemobility.com to provide initial feedback on transportation issues and priorities in the study area. The survey will remain open until March 15, 2021, and feedback from the survey will help shape future transportation recommendations in the study area.

Collin County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state and nation. In the last 20 years, the county’s population has doubled from 500,000 to just over 1 million people. The county’s high growth rate is expected to continue and place an even heavier burden on existing transportation infrastructure. Collin County must continually assess ways to alleviate anticipated mobility issues.

Phase 1 of the Future Mobility Study, which began in August 2020, includes preliminary data collection and analysis as well as outreach with the public, agencies and local governments. Route studies and roadway design are not included in this phase of the study. Phase 1 is expected to be complete in April 2021.

The county is planning to host a public meeting later this spring to share additional information such as population and employment projections, current travel trends and future commercial and residential developments. Anyone interested in the study has the option to subscribe to updates including notifications for future public meetings at ccfuturemobility.com.
