With an increase of school shootings, safety is a paramount concern as the upcoming school year is beginning.

Farmersville Independent School District takes safety seriously and unlike many other districts has their own police department under the direction of newly hired Police Chief Brian Alford.

The department, formed in 2013, will now employ four full-time officers – the chief and three other police officers each assigned to a different FISD campus.

As security has become more of a hot-button topic nationwide, the federal government has dedicated $62.1 million that must be designated by schools for safety implementations.
