A red English style telephone booth glinting in the sunlight has been attracting quite a bit of attention throughout the city.

Located on the corner of Gaddy and Hwy. 78, the booth is not just a relic of a time gone by but rather a way to offer protection for a school crossing guard.

Shalon Pearson, who has been a crossing guard for FISD for several years, uses walking as her primary mode of transportation. When a citizen saw her standing in the pouring rain in between crossing students, a discussion to provide her with shelter was started on Facebook.

“Our patrol guys tried to get by there when we could to offer our car for shelter but we’re not always available due to calls for service,” Police Chief Mike Sullivan said.
