While cold temperatures may keep marching bands indoors, for Farmersville High’s Winter Guard and indoor Drumline, the chill just gives them more opportunity to perfect their crafts.

This year marks the second year for the FHS Winter Guard program, according to organizer Kyla Cross, who also leads Color Guard during marching band season in the fall.

For those unfamiliar with Winter Guard, it is a sport similar to Color Guard, which is performed during the fall with the Marching Band.

The main differences are that it is performed indoors on a floor tarp and moves are showcased to a sound track, rather than live music. Like Color Guard, Winter Guard focuses on an overall story or theme being told through, dance, acting and spinning of color guard silks, rifles and sabres.
