“It’s just a drill.” “They don’t do drills for stuff like this, idiot.”

For students at Farmersville High School, a lockdown drill is familiar territory as students participate in two lockdowns per semester. FHS Senior Savannah Phifer is directing her senior showcase play called “Lockdown” by Douglas Craven.

Though only 45 minutes in duration, the play packs a dramatic punch as students undergo what it is like during a real life lockdown.

“As students, we go through these drills constantly and never know when a real one occurs. I think the true meaning I chose this play is to raise awareness on how a student truly reacts when a situation like this occurs. One student cries and wails, another calls her dad for help, and another student threatens to beat the guy when he comes in. I think people expect students to always act calm and accept the situation at hand. People need to know what’s behind the scenes of a lockdown,” Savannah said.
