Historical Society to host annual luncheon

by | Mar 4, 2022 | Latest, Life & Style

For over two decades, the Farmersville Historical Society has been hosting one of the most popular social events in the city – and this year will be no different.

After a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the group’s annual Spring Luncheon fundraiser will offer the opportunity to enjoy lunch and entertainment, visit with old friends and support a great cause. It will be held at Farmersville High School cafetorium Saturday, March 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This year, for safety reasons, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a special box lunch made by Pieville, Farmersville’s newest downtown business. The lunch will incorporate some homemade food items, such as chicken salad, made using recipes featured in the Farmersville Historical Society Cookbook. Society president Bertie Neu said that some of the recipes will be “inside the box as well.”

Much like past luncheons, guests will have the opportunity to win door prizes, participate in the white elephant sale, silent auction items and much more.

Neu reports there will not be a style show this year, however, there will be plenty of entertainment including a slideshow, created by members Winnetta Morrow and Marty Shelton, that highlights the society’s 2021 activities, and more.

As customary, there will be a featured speaker at the luncheon. This year it will be Mirna Best of Delightful Blooms in Blue Ridge. Best will present a program titled, “A Journey thru Gardening and Gratitude.

“It will be very informative, educational and entertaining,” Shelton said of the presentation.

This ever-popular event serves as the society’s main fundraiser. Aside from replacing windows on the house, funds are needed for painting, programs, the recent fence damage the property received during the first February ice storm and much more.

Due to the popularity of this luncheon, the Historical Society is encouraging everyone to purchase tickets in advance. Tickets are $25 and are available at Dyer Drug Store, Main Street Antiques, Fiber Circle, The Nest Hearth and Home Store, through the mail or at the door.

Group tables of six are available for $150. New this year is the addition of three VIP tables located at the front of the cafetorium near the stage. The tables will have additional unique gifts in the lunch box as well as hors d’oeuvres. The tables seat six and will be sold for $250. To reserve a ticket, buy a whole table or one of the VIP tables, call 214-616-3276.

To order the $25 luncheon tickets through the mail, send a check to Farmersville Historical Society, P.O. Box 94, Farmersville, TX. 75442.
