The spirit of giving is once again lighting up Farmersville as the Farmersville Outreach Alliance (FOA) kicks off its annual Angel Tree Program, helping ensure local children have gifts waiting under the tree this Christmas
Last year, the program provided Christmas presents for 225 children, and this year, 236 have been signed up, according to organizer Judy Brandon. Donations help FOA provide both essential items and toys for each registered child.
Individuals wanting to adopt an Angel can access the form on farmersvilleoutreach.com. The website’s new design features an Angel Tree page, making it easy to access information specific to the program. Packets with the same details are also available at the Chamber of Commerce office and South State Bank. Adoptions are open until Friday, Nov. 21.
At sign-up, families list six desired items, giving adopters a clear list to shop from. This ensures gifts are personalized and keeps totals consistent between children from the same family.
Adopters typically spend between $100 and $150. Those who prefer not to adopt an Angel but still want to help can donate through the FOA website. Brandon said that not every child is adopted, so financial donations help fulfill the remaining lists.
Gifts collection will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, and from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 29-30, at First United Methodist Church, 206 North Main Street. Employees from Tracy’s Custom Homes will help distribute the gifts to families Friday, Dec. 12.
“(The employees have) done that for the last several years,” Brandon said. “They come in all dressed up as elves and take the gift bags out to the families.”
