Families in need of assistance this summer have several options available, beginning with Farmersville ISD’s free summer meal program for children.
The district is offering free grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches through June 26 for all children 18 years old and younger. Meals are available Tuesday through Friday at two locations.
Breakfast is served from 8 to 8:45 a.m. at both Tatum Elementary and the Farmersville High School Arena. Lunch is available from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the FHS Arena and from 12:15 to 1 p.m. at Tatum Elementary.
The program is open to the public and designed to help ensure children continue to receive nutritious meals while school is out for the summer.
In addition to the school meal program, residents facing food insecurity can seek assistance from local food pantries within the 75442 zip code.
The Farmersville Outreach Alliance operates from the First United Methodist Church, 206 N. Main St. Assistance is available from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month. More information is available by calling 214-551-9467.
City on a Hill Ministries provides food, clothing and bill assistance at the Sugar Hill Center, 1055 W. Audie Murphy Parkway. Services are offered from 2 to 4 p.m. every Sunday.
Local pantry leaders say food donations are especially important during the summer months when school is out and demand often increases. Nonperishable food items, including canned vegetables, canned meats, pasta, rice, peanut butter, cereal and boxed meals, are typically among the most-needed items.
Residents interested in donating food or learning more about volunteer opportunities are encouraged to contact their local pantries directly.
