Charles Richard Shelton

by | Jul 28, 2026 | Obituaries

Charles Richard Shelton passed away on July 16, 2026, at the age of 88, at his Farmersville area home, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 1, 1937, in Hugo, Oklahoma, to Ralph McKinney Shelton and Minnie Eleanor (Grafford) Shelton. Charles was united in marriage to Marvine Troupe on November 26, 1966, in Iuka, Mississippi.

Charles was raised in the Texas Panhandle, where he graduated from Borger High School. He went on to attend Frank Phillips College, before continuing his education at the University of Texas studying mathematics and physics.

Over the course of a career spanning more than five decades, Charles built a respected legacy in the telecommunications industry. He began his career at the Graduate Research Center of the Southwest (now The University of Texas at Dallas), later worked for University Computing Company, Itel Data Services, and eventually became a partner in founding Stonehouse and Company, a pioneering telecommunications software firm. After the partnership sold Stonehouse, Charles, with his son Colin, formed his own consulting and contracting firm, Shelton Technologies, Inc.

Beyond his career, Charles found his greatest enjoyment outdoors. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter who traveled globally. Charles was a Lifetime member of the Dallas Woods and Waters Conservation Club, where he served in leadership roles as both an Officer and a member of the Board, and was honored with membership in the “Armadillo Chapter” of the DWWCC.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Marvine Shelton; his children, Lyle Elizabeth Shelton and Charles Colin Shelton; and his grandchildren, Troupe McKinney Shelton and Lola Marie Stier.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Minnie Shelton, and his brothers, Robert and Larry Shelton.

A visitation will be held at Hurst’s Fielder-Baker Funeral Home on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 1–2:00 p.m., with a memorial service to start at 2:00 p.m.
