Breaking news: Fuel spill causes hazmat remediation at convenience store

by | Mar 21, 2019 | Latest

Emergency calls flooded in this morning, March 21, as the smell of gasoline permeated the area surrounding Stop N’ Buy Convenience Store located on Main Street in Farmersville.

After conducting some research, Collin County Fire Marshal Matt Jones and Farmersville Fire Chief Kim Morris were able to ascertain where the scene of gas was coming from, an overfill of the gas tanks at Stop N’ Buy.

A Hazmat specialist was called in to clean up the fuel spill, which was approximately 25 to 30 gallons that flowed into the sewer system. The cost of hazmat remediation will be provided for by the fuel company.

The spill, according to Morris, occurred around 6 a.m. and calls began to come in around 7:30 a.m.

Students at Tatum Elementary School were required to stay indoors with all of the doors and windows closed as gasoline fumes were allowed to dissipate from the area.

The scene was clear by about noon, Morris said.
