Internal or external? That’s the question councilmembers reviewed last week about the city’s permitting process.

The group wanted to compare whether it would be better to internalize the city’s permitting procedure versus their current system of using an outside company.

City Manager Ben White reviewed information at the Tuesday, March 12 city council meeting with councilmembers. Currently, the city contracts with an outside agency, Bureau Veritas, for its permitting needs regarding building permits and inspections.

Year-to-date, the city has expended $114,000 with the company for permitting services, according to Finance Director Daphne Hamlin. By the end of the year, the city anticipates spending about $200,000 with Bureau Veritas due to the influx in permits associated with the Camden Park subdivision.
