A new tool to aid financial transparency has been established by the city of Farmersville.
Open Gov, a software program, which can be found at farmersvilletx.com, showcases myriad items that allow citizens to analyze the city’s finances on an up-to-date basis. Open Gov can be found by going to the transparency section of the city’s website.
According to City Finance Director Daphne Hamlin, citizens are able to review city financials, by fund, by category, by account number even down to line item by line item. Anyone can also see a detail listing of what is spent in each line item giving description, amount and check number. It is updated every night.
“We are very excited to offer the citizens the opportunity to review our finances at anytime,” Hamlin said. “It streamlines our reporting where you have up-to-the minute reports, without waiting for the financial report that I still produce monthly. We also provided a five year history of our budget for comparison.”
