For households in Farmersville ISD that are at or below income eligibility levels, parents or guardians can apply for free or reduced-price meal benefits.
If a family receives Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits, their children will automatically qualify for free lunch.
For those who are not currently receiving benefits, there are certain criteria that must be met including income eligibility.
For a family of four to qualify for free lunch, the annual household income cannot exceed $36,075. Reduced lunch benefits are available to families with an annual income at or below $51,338.
For each family member added or subtracted, an adjustment of $6,136 or $8,732 is made for free or reduced lunch benefits, respectively.
Under the provisions of the free and reduced-price meal policy, Child Nutrition Director Candi Johnson will review applications and determine eligibility. Applications can be submitted anytime during the school year.
According to FISD Child Nutrition, the department is working with local agencies to identify all children who are eligible for the program.
Applications must be returned to Candi Johnson, Child Nutrition Director, 807 N. Main St. Farmersville, TX 75442.
After a whole summer off from school zone and bus activity, the Texas Department of Transportation is reminding motorists and parents to take precautions to prevent traffic crashes and injuries in and around school buses.
State law requires approaching motorists to stop when a school bus is stopped and operating a visual sign, typically a stop sign or red flashing lights, regardless of which direction a motorist is going. Drivers should not resume speed until the bus resumes motion, or the visual signal is no longer activated. A driver does not have to stop for a school bus if it is on a highway with intervening space or physical barrier such as a median. Violations of this law can lead to a $1,000 fine.
