With the regular season winding down, the Farmersville and Princeton cross country teams got in more valuable race experience last week.
Farmersville showed at the Castleberry Invitational in Fort Worth that it could be a team to be reckoned with.
The Farmers placed seven runners in the top 20 – six on the boys’ side – and had six male runners complete the 5-kilometer course in less than 20 minutes.
For the second straight week, sophomore Landen Ware led the charge for the Farmersville boys. He placed fifth at Castleberry with a time of 18:31.
Junior Luke Lair also finished in the top 10. He placed 10th with an 18:54. Less than four seconds off his pace was sophomore Drew Crum, who took 11th in 18:58. Freshman Jesse Hamm placed 13th in 19:07. Juniors Landon Green and Travis Chambers finished 16th and 17th, respectively, with times of 19:25 and 19:26.
Also competing for Farmersville in Fort Worth were senior Cristian Mejia (20:20), sophomore Jesse Salinas (21:25), sophomore Kenson Briscoe (21:52), junior Bob Frech (21:53), senior Brady Graham (24:54), sophomore Emmanuel Flores (25:02), freshman Riley Hofmann (25:07), junior Landon Herrera (26:43), junior Leland Cortez (26:48), sophomore Malakai Tenhet (28:42) and junior Keegan Chapman (29:05).
On the girls’ side, junior Breelynn Pollard continues to be a standout performer for the Lady Farmers. She placed fifth in the girls’ 2-mile race with a 13:20.
Junior Dani Penazola turned in the next fastest time for the Lady Farmers, placing 21st with a 14:51. Freshman Caroline Lindsey was 22nd in 14:54. Senior Daniella Jiminez placed 37th in 16:03 and senior Valerie Palmros took 54th in 16:42.
Also competing for the Lady Farmers were sophomore Kaylee Marquez (18:00), freshman Camille Pua (18:24), junior Amaris Alvarez (18:37) and sophomore Angel Loya (19:46).
The last meet of the regular season for Farmersville is the Celina Invitational on Friday.
The District 13-4A meet will be held Oct. 6 in Wills Point.
