Farmersville’s volleyball team came into this season having to work several new players into its rotation. But after the Lady Farmers beat Pottsboro and Sulphur Springs on their home court during their Aug. 11 season opener, head coach Arian May was pleasantly surprised by how well they worked together despite not having much playing time together.

Their ability to work well as a unit has fueled a perfect 11-0 start.

Farmersville’s latest triumph was a first-place finish in last week’s Central Heights Tournament. Last year, Farmersville lost to Central Heights in the championship match, but the Lady Farmers exacted revenge on the Blue Devils on Saturday evening to claim the title.

Senior outside hitter Peighton Purser was named tournament MVP. Senior libero Isabella Lopez and senior setter Breelynn Pollard were named to the all-tournament team.

Farmersville won all nine matches at Central Heights, earning wins over Robinson (25-21, 25-20), Gary (25-15, 25-13), Quitman (25-20, 25-12), Garrison (28-26, 25-18), Nacogdoches (25-11, 25-16), North Hopkins (25-8, 25-20) and China Spring (25-18, 25-19) – all in two sets – and a three-set win over Pine Tree (20-25, 25-16, 25-19) before toppling host Central Heights in the final.

What has really impressed May during Farmersville’s undefeated start is the depth that the Lady Farmers have at each position.

Just about every player filled the stat sheet in at least one statistical category, leading the Lady Farmers to a 3-0 sweep of Pottsboro (25-17, 25-12, 25-11) and a 3-1 win over Sulphur Springs (25-11, 17-25, 25-6, 25-21) at Farmersville Arena on Aug. 11.

“I feel like there is balance,” May said. “There are some people that can really step up. Honestly, all of our hitters have the ability to step up and be in the top kills category. I think that we’re going to see a mixture of people in the top kills category. If someone wants to attack Peighton, we have someone else who can step up.”
