City Council finalized a trimmed fiscal year 2025-26 budget Oct. 6, approving cuts to the police department and Rike Library to balance spending under the approved tax rate.
Finance Director John Lawrence presented an ordinance achieving that goal by reducing allocations to the police department by $91,372 and to Rike Library by $148,962.
He reminded council members that the reductions were necessary to balance the budget built upon a total tax rate of $0.725 per $100 of appraised home value.
According to the city’s tax impact statement, the average homestead owner will pay about $86.32 more annually compared with FY 2024-25. The average taxable homestead value increased from $248,671 to $250,653.
