SANGER – Farmersville entered last Thursday’s game against Sanger looking to finish the season on a high note.
Although the Farmers had already been eliminated from playoff contention following a loss to District 5-4A Division II champion Krum the previous week, they still had the chance to end the season with a third straight winning record and a third consecutive victory over the Indians.
Unfortunately for the Farmers, they couldn’t contain Sanger’s explosive offense. In a game that featured a combined 91 first-half points and 1,382 total yards, the Indians scored touchdowns on each of their first nine possessions in a 91-56 victory at Indian Stadium.
Despite the lopsided final score, the night started perfectly for the visitors.
After winning the coin toss and deferring to the second half, Farmersville opened the game with a surprise onside kick. Sophomore Brandt Martinez recovered at the Sanger 45-yard line, setting up a quick-strike drive.
Two plays later, junior quarterback Levi McAbee raced 38 yards, and senior running back Marquis Oshodi capped the drive with a seven-yard touchdown run. Senior Christian Aguilar added the extra point to give the Farmers a 7-0 lead.
McAbee finished 14-of-24 passing for 188 yards and five touchdowns, while Oshodi powered the ground game with 313 rushing yards and three scores. The Farmers totaled 556 yards of offense to Sanger’s 864.
Sanger led 42-14 at the end of the first quarter and 63-28 at halftime.
