Points were at a premium for Farmersville and Community in last Friday night’s District 13-4A opener, but it was the Lady Farmers who capitalized on more scoring chances while turning in a stout defensive effort in a 46-25 road win.
Farmersville’s defense set the tone early. The Lady Farmers held the Lady Braves to just six points in the first half — including zero in the second quarter.
Farmersville led 18-6 at the end of the first quarter before closing the half on a 12-0 run to take a commanding 30-6 advantage into halftime.
“I thought that we did a solid job on defense,” head coach Sandra Hoge said. “Our energy was good, and we played well as a team.”
Offensively, senior shooting guard Rileigh Blankenship helped Farmersville find its rhythm early. She knocked down five 3-pointers in the first half, opening up scoring opportunities for her teammates. Seniors Gali Mathews and Katelynn McRay, along with junior Kali Phillips, capitalized with points in the paint.
Blankenship finished with a game-high 19 points, 17 of which came in the first half. McRay added eight points, Phillips scored seven and senior point guard Alexia Hernandez chipped in four.
