The battle to earn one of four playoff spots in District 13-4A is going to be fierce and likely come down to the final week of the regular season.
Farmersville is right in the mix.
Despite losing each of its previous two games, the Farmers came into Saturday afternoon’s home game against Community tied with Caddo Mills and Community for third place in the 13-4A standings. A home win, then, could potentially go a long way toward helping the Farmers finish the regular season on a winning note and earn their first playoff berth since 2013.
Farmersville positioned itself to do just that Saturday. Despite struggles with rebounding and turnovers, the Farmers matched point for point with the Braves for a little more than two quarters of play. However, Farmersville was unable to keep pace with Community the remainder of the game as the Braves finished the second half on a 35-16 run to earn a 69-47 win.
Junior forward Devin Swain Jr. attempted to put the scoring load on his shoulders. He came alive in the third quarter to score eight of his team-high 17 points. Three of those points came on a 3-pointer with 6:47 remaining to reduce what had been a six-point lead for Community to 34-31.
The momentum, though, quickly swung in Community’s favor. The Braves’ scoring balance was on full display for the remainder of the second half, and it allowed the visitors to distance themselves from the Farmers.
