The Farmersville boys soccer team created significantly more scoring chances than Sunnyvale but came up just short in a 3-2 loss to the Raiders at Farmers Stadium on Thursday.
Sunnyvale struck just 61 seconds into the match after a poor goal kick gave the Raiders possession deep in Farmersville territory. Zakariya Hijaz capitalized, dribbling past a fallen defender and scoring for a 1-0 lead.
Farmersville responded quickly.
Five minutes later, after senior Daniel Mendoza was fouled from behind, senior Christian Aguilar converted a penalty kick to tie the match at 1-1.
Sunnyvale regained the lead in the 13th minute when Christian Hodges used his speed to break through the defense and score for a 2-1 advantage.
Farmersville had chances to respond before halftime, including a breakaway opportunity for Fernando Hernandez, but couldn’t convert.
Mendoza’s second-half goal once again pulled the Farmers even, and despite being reduced to 10 players following a red card, Farmersville continued to create opportunities down the stretch.
Still, the equalizer never came.
Farmersville closed its season with a 10-10-3 record.
