Although the season ended in March, the success of the Farmersville boys and girls soccer teams — both collectively and individually — was recognized during their respective team banquets on May 4.
On the boys side, Daniel Mendoza and Christian Aguilar shared Co-MVP honors. Jairo Acosta was named Offensive Player of the Year, while Markus Estala and Yoan Pineda earned Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Juan Vargas received the Fighting Farmer Award.
That group helped lead the Farmers to their second consecutive playoff appearance — just the second postseason berth in program history. Mendoza and Aguilar each scored a goal in Farmersville’s bi-district loss to Sunnyvale in the Class 4A Division II playoffs.
For the Lady Farmers, Kandence Fisk earned the Fighting Heart Award, while Kimberly Cuellar was named Defensive MVP. Syah Surles and Natalie Taylor shared Offensive MVP honors, with Taylor also being named the team’s overall MVP.
Farmersville’s girls finished the season with nine wins, including six in district play.
Several players from both teams also earned recognition from District 11-4A coaches.
Mendoza, a four-year varsity starter, was named the district’s Utility Player of the Year. Acosta, Aguilar, Estala, Pineda and Gustavo Ramos were selected to the All-District first team. Vargas, Gael Mendoza, Luke Lair, Emanuel Rugama and Felix Maldonado earned second-team honors, while Kevin Jurado and Fernando Hernandez received honorable mention.
Taylor capped off a standout career by being named the district’s female Utility Player of the Year. She scored 31 goals as a senior and finished with 77 goals over her final three seasons.
Cuellar and Surles were first-team All-District selections, while Fisk, Aberlie Marsh, Alexa Patino and Gwen Pangle were named to the second team. Aliah Coronado, Avery Davis, Zoey Mann, Aracely Serna and Star Rojas earned honorable mention honors.
This season marked Farmersville’s final year competing in District 11-4A.
Beginning next season, the Farmers will move to District 6-4A, where Aubrey, Bonham, Gainesville, Pilot Point and Sanger remain district opponents. Lake Dallas and Ponder will join the new alignment. Lake Dallas’ boys team is coming off a Class 4A Division I state runner-up finish, while the Lady Falcons went undefeated in district play this season.
