Although the 2025-26 school year is winding down, several student-athletes at Farmersville High School were still finalizing where they would continue their athletic and academic careers.
Five Farmersville seniors officially made those decisions public during a signing ceremony held Wednesday, May 6, inside Farmersville Arena.
Senior Alexia Hernandez, a point guard for the Lady Farmers basketball team and a standout cheerleader, announced she will continue her academic and cheerleading career at East Texas Baptist University.
Hernandez enjoyed a decorated four-year cheerleading career at Farmersville, including three seasons on varsity. She earned multiple All-American nominations and captured the prestigious All-American title during her senior year. As a sophomore, Hernandez helped lead the Lady Farmers cheer squad to a third-place finish at the state competition and was selected to the Competitive Mat Squad all four years.
Sophia Ferretiz signed to continue her powerlifting career at Louisiana Tech University.
Ferretiz concluded her high school career as a two-time state qualifier and two-time state medalist. She placed fifth in the 220-pound division as a junior before improving to a third-place finish this season at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association state meet with a total lift of 1,050 pounds.
Jared Vanderburg will continue his football career at McPherson College.
Vanderburg anchored an offensive line that featured only one returning starter from the 2024 Farmersville squad that advanced to the area round of the playoffs for the first time since 2017. The Farmers averaged 36.6 points per game during his senior season.
Conner Bakken signed with Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska, where he will continue his powerlifting career.
Earlier this year, Bakken became the first boys powerlifter in Farmersville history to win a state championship after capturing the Class 4A Texas High School Powerlifting Association title in the 123-pound division.
Ethan Stone will continue his track and field career at Dallas Baptist University.
Stone verbally committed to Dallas Baptist on May 4 before officially signing with the Patriots two days later. During his senior season, Stone broke a Farmersville school record in the boys 400-meter dash that had stood since 1998, first posting a 49.7 at a meet in Decatur before lowering the mark again at the area meet.
Two weeks ago, Stone also became the first male track and field athlete from Farmersville to qualify for the UIL state meet since at least 2013.
