Farmersville senior Ethan Stone concluded a breakout season by earning sixth place in the boys 400-meter dash with a time of 48.67 seconds at the Class 4A state track and field meet Thursday at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
Charles Anderson of Dallas Carter won the state title with a 46.93, winning the event in dominant fashion. But there was only a difference of 0.89 seconds between the second- and ninth-place finishers. Houston Washington’s Quintin Powell was the state runner-up, posting a time of 48.14. Canyon senior Emmitt Stewart also earned a spot on the medal stand, earning bronze with a 48.3.
Stone qualified for state by posting the top time of any third-place finisher in the four regions in Class 4A. He was the first male track and field athlete from Farmersville since 2013 to advance to state.
In what was a historic season on the track for Stone, he broke the school record in the 400 twice, the first occurrence coming at a meet in Decatur. He clocked a time of 49.7 at Decatur to shatter the previous school record that had dated back to 1998. He lowered the mark again at the area meet in Sunnyvale with a personal-best 48.62.
