With the season over, coaches in District 13-4A recently cast their votes for the all-district softball team, and six players from the Farmersville softball team earned their way onto that prestigious list.
The Lady Farmers had one player earn a district superlative. Senior Jacey Wheaton, a Texas Woman’s University signee, was named the district’s Catcher of the Year. Wheaton posted a team-best .532 batting average with 25 hits, including seven doubles, four triples, two home runs, 19 RBIs, 17 runs scored, 11 walks and struck out seven times in 60 plate appearances.
Multi-sport standout Breelynn Pollard, a junior, was named to the All-13-4A first team for her play in the infield. Pollard finished with a .294 batting average, .412 slugging percentage, 15 hits, seven RBIs, 12 runs, seven walks and eight stolen bases.
Junior infielder Presley McIver and senior outfielder Haley Watkins landed on the second team. McIver had the second-best batting average for Farmersville with a mark of .382, a slugging percentage of .509, 21 hits, 11 RBIs, 11 runs and two stolen bases. Watkins hit .295 to go along with a .380 on-base percentage, .500 slugging percentage, 13 hits, including four triples, and 10 RBIs.
Sophomore outfielder Carly Olguin and freshman infielder Nidya Duran received recognition on the honorable-mention team. Olguin collected five hits, including one double and one triple, and three RBIs. Duran finished her first season donning a Lady Farmers uniform with a .257 batting average, .314 slugging percentage, nine hits, including seven singles, five RBIs, four runs scored and one stolen base.
Farmersville’s coaching staff presented individual awards during a ceremony that was held May 5.
For the plaque awards, Pollard was named team MVP, Watkins captured the Fightin’ Heart Award and sophomore Karina Sandoval was the winner of the Miss Hustle Award.
For the paper awards, Wheaton won the Golden Slugger Award, McIver was the winner of the Golden Glove Award, Duran was named Rookie of the Year, Olguin captured the Positive Attitude Award, freshman Maddie Burkhart earned the Sportsmanship Award, sophomore Veronica Medrano was named the winner of the Best Communicator Award and junior Savannah Rivera was named the recipient of the Never Give Up Award.
Farmersville had one district win, a 15-14 triumph over Sunnyvale on Tuesday, March 24. The Lady Farmers tallied 18 hits on the day, including 11 combined RBIs between McIver, Watkins and Wheaton. Medrano hit the game-winning RBI triple during the bottom of the eighth inning.
