Dixie Edwards Shinn, age 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Farmersville, Texas, on May 8, 2026, surrounded by her family and dear caregivers, after an extended illness. She was born in Caddo Mills, Texas, on April 25, 1937, to the late Dick and Bonnie Edwards.
Dixie is survived by her two sons Benjamin Nelson Pool, with wife Katherine, of Farmersville, Texas, and Michael Edward Pool, with wife Patsy, of McMinnville, Tennessee, three grandchildren – Jacqueline Renee Bayliss of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Randall Keith Pool of Summitville, Tennessee, and Tonya Lynn McClure of Smithville, Tennessee, along with eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Julian Pool, and her second husband, Robert Shinn.
Dixie began a distinguished business career, after graduating from Farmersville High School in 1956, as a bookkeeper for several major construction companies in Dallas, Texas, but was appointed to the position of Tax Assessor-Collector for the Farmersville Independent School District in 1975, a post that she held until 1985. At that time, she became a successful real estate agent in the Farmersville area, later becoming part-owner in the Remax Country Northeast Real Estate Agency until her retirement in 2007.
Dixie’s family would like to express their greatest appreciation and warmest thanks to the host of caregivers and medical professionals who took such wonderful care of her during the final months of her life.
A short graveside service will be conducted at 1 PM Saturday, June 6, 2026 at the IOOF Cemetery in Farmersville, conducted by the Hurst’s Fielder-Baker Funeral Home, which will be officiated by Steve Teague.
