Mrs. Carroll “Joan” Moss passed away on July 4, 2026, at the age of 86 in Farmersville, Texas. She was born on July 29, 1939, in Valdasta, Texas, to Tolbert and Leanna (Johnson) Combest. She graduated from Blue Ridge High School and she was united in marriage to Theodore “Ted” Moss on August 25, 1956, in Farmersville, Texas.
She is survived by her sons, Mark Moss and his wife, Alisha, and Brad Moss, along with her 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, her son-in-law, Ron Jacobson, daughter-in-law, Irene Moss, and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Donna and Lester Van Winkle.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Theodore E. Moss, daughter, Robin Jacobson, son, Ronald “Hal” Moss, her grandchild, Eddie Ivy, and her parents, Tolbert and Leanna Combest.
Known simply as “Granny” to nearly everyone who had the privilege of knowing her, she was affectionately called “Lightnin” by the love of her life, her gentle giant of a husband, whom she lovingly called “Thunder.” Together, they built more than a house—they created a home where everyone was welcome. Their table was always surrounded by family and friends, and the aroma of homemade pies and delicious meals was a constant reminder of the love, warmth, and hospitality they so generously shared.
Granny’s devotion to her family was ever present, and her lifelong devotion to the Lord was visible in her daily life. They were members of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Farmersville, Texas, for many years.
A visitation was held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Hurst’s Fielder-Baker Funeral Home from 6-8:00 p.m.
The funeral service was held on Thursday, July 9, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with interment at I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
