Mary Colleen Stewart Aycock Hager went to be with her Heavenly Father Oct. 10, 2026 at the age of 98. Colleen was born July 1, 1928 in Farmersville, Texas, the only child of Y. Collie Stewart and Martha Allyne Wilcoxson. Colleen had a happy childhood, attending Farmersville Schools and graduating from North Texas State Teachers College with a BS in Library Science. On July 3, 1948, she married Robert Jesse Aycock, Jr. They lived in Dallas where she worked as a librarian and on the first Bookmobile for Dallas Public Library. Bobby and Colleen soon moved back to Farmersville where Colleen taught school for 24 years, first in Princeton, then in Farmersville. She loved teaching and was an avid reader. After teaching elementary school for several years, Colleen moved to High School, where she was librarian and coached the UIL Spelling contestants. Six of her students went to State with two of them winning the State Championship. Colleen earned a Masters Degree from East Texas State University and held many offices as a member of the Texas State Teachers and Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary organization for women teachers. A life long member of the First United Methodist Church in Farmersville, she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for years. Bobby and Colleen were instrumental in building a new Parsonage for the church.
After retiring, Colleen was an enthusiastic member and served as an officer in many organizations, including North Texas Medical Center Auxiliary, Eldorado Ladies Association, McKinney Community Concerts, Trippers, Dallas Knife and Fork Club, and the Mary K Craig Class. She joined HELPS International on several trips to Guatemala, helping organize the library in the new school HELPS built there. She obsessively collected Spanish language books for years for the school. She loved to read and encouraged her students, friends, and family to be avid readers. She was in two book review clubs, a bridge group, and Bible study into her 90s. Colleen read the newspaper, cover to cover, every morning.
Colleen and Bobby were a formidable couple in Farmersville enjoying friends and actives for 42 years until Bobby succumbed to illness. Through and after this tragedy in her life, Colleen kept good spirits, a positive attitude, and forged ahead with what would be a long life. She adeptly continued Bobby’s business interests. Three years later, Colleen married Ferguson Hager and moved to Lake Highlands in Dallas. She was an active member of Highland Park United Methodist Church where she was a member of the In His Steps Sunday School Class. Lake Highlands gave her easy access to the Dallas Arboretum where she went on frequent walks and often invited friends to join her. She went on many domestic and foreign vacations always looking for the next adventure. She took each grandson on a special trip; Justin to Switzerland and Italy, Andrew and John Henry to Washington, D.C., and Chris on a Harry Potter adventure in England. Her grandson Alex, who could not travel, enjoyed many trips to the Arboretum and other gifts to enrich his life.
Colleen had many friends of all ages and walks of life who visited her and kept in touch with her until her passing. She loved to encourage and support her friends and would ofter send notes and photos to her oldest friends reminding them of the great times and memories. She always had a big smile, positive attitude, and contagious laugh. She insisted on maintaining her appearance at all times even breaking the rules, during covid lockdown, to not miss her hair and nail appointments. She kept her independence and reluctantly gave up her car at 94.
Colleen was preceded in death by her husbands Robert Jesse Aycock, Jr. and Rose Ferguson Hager. Additionally she was preceded in death by her grandson Robert Justin Aycock and special friend Joseph Geary.
