Farmersville lost its home-opener 7-4 to Van Alstyne Monday night.

The Farmers (1-4) were leading 3-2 late in the game but surrendered five runs in the top half of the sixth inning. They tacked on one run in the seventh but eventually fell short in their late comeback bid.

Jason Gomez led the way for the Farmers, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. In the loss, Caden Norman pitched into the sixth inning, giving up six runs (four earned) and striking out four.

Farmersville continues its season at the Grand Saline Tournament this weekend, facing White Oak at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
