Clear the clutter at city-wide event Saturday

by | Oct 17, 2024 | Latest

Residents of Farmersville will have an opportunity to dispose of unwanted items during the upcoming City Wide Clean-Up event, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 19. The clean-up will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Public Works Maintenance Yard, located at 302 S. Johnson St.

This event is open exclusively to city residents and those participating will need to provide proof of residency. A city utility bill with the resident’s name and address will be required for verification.

Several types of household items will be accepted for disposal, including furniture such as couches, chairs, and tables, as well as mattresses, grills, patio furniture, bicycles, toys, and strollers. Tree limbs and brush will also be accepted, but the event is limited to residential waste only, excluding any commercial landscaping debris. Residents are also encouraged to break down and flatten any boxes they plan to dispose of.

However, certain items are prohibited from being dropped off during the clean-up. Tires, dead animals, freezers, refrigerators, propane tanks, 55-gallon barrels and hazardous waste will not be accepted.

If residents need to dispose of hazardous materials like paint, batteries, antifreeze, motor oil, or cleaners, they can obtain a hazardous waste kit from City Hall prior to the clean-up event. With this kit, they will be able to drop off those materials during the clean-up.

This annual event offers residents an opportunity to get rid of household clutter while ensuring proper waste disposal. To learn more or ask specific questions, contact the city.
