Nine Farmersville ISD student athletes have been arrested in connection with a campus hazing incident.

According to the FISD police department, a student was taken into custody and arrested on Sept 26 as a result of the incident.

Following an investigation, FISD police identified eight additional students who were taken into custody and arrested on Oct. 22.

FISD police chief Steve Wade said the district has notified the parents of the students involved including three victims who are also student athletes.

Those arrested have been charged with unlawful restraint, a Class A misdemeanor.

Evidence collected during the investigation will be submitted to the Collin County District Attorney’s Office for processing. The district and police department will continue to work closely with the appropriate authorities.

“Our department has conducted a very thorough investigation,” said Wade. “We’ve been in touch with the district attorney’s office to keep them informed and get guidance on the charges.

“We believe this is an isolated incident, and not part of the culture at the district. Nevertheless, if the community has concerns or additional information, we’d like to know so we can address or investigate those,” he added.

Police stated it is important to note that school disciplinary actions are separate from criminal charges. Each case will be handled individually, considering factors such as the seriousness of the offense, the student’s prior disciplinary record, statutory requirements, and any relevant disabilities.

The district emphasized its commitment to the safety and well-being of all students as it addresses these incidents. FISD is providing counseling and support services to the affected students and families as needed.
