Filing continues for council. ISD, college elections

by | Jan 30, 2025 | Area news, Latest

The filing period for Farmersville City Council, Farmersville ISD Board of Trustees and the Collin College Board of Trustees May 3, 2025, elections is underway.

As of presstime, no one had filed for one of two available city council seats; Place 2, currently held by Russ Chandler, and Place 5, held by Lance Hudson.

Council members serve three-year terms and are elected at large, meaning they represent the entire city.

There are four FISD trustee seats that will be filled.

Place 1 is currently held by the board’s vice president, Paul Kelly. Place 2 is held by Dale Pickett, the board’s secretary, Place 3 is held by board president Tony Gray and Place 4 his held by David Coleman.

Trustees serve four-year terms and are elected at large, meaning they represent the entire district rather than specific geographic area within FISD.

Kelly, Pickett, Gray and Coleman were each re-elected to their places in 2021.

Three have filed for three seats on the Collin College Board of Trustees. Newcomer Staci L. Weaver filed for Place 4 currently occupied by Trustee Greg Gomel. Place 5 and Place 6 incumbents, Raj Menon and Stacy Anne Arias, have also filed. Those elected will serve six-year terms on the nine-member board.

Candidates have until 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14 to file an application.

Farmersville voters approved term limits for city councilmembers which began in May 2023 during the May 2022 city charter election.

According to the city’s charter “no person shall serve as Mayor for more than three consecutive elected terms, and no person shall serve as councilmember for more than three consecutive elected terms. No person shall serve as councilmember and mayor (combined) for more than eighteen consecutive years.”

Chandler was appointed in Oct. 2024 to fill a Place 2 vacancy and Hudson is completing the second of two, two-year terms.

FISD trustees are not restricted to term limits.

The last day to register to vote or make a change of address effective for the May 3 election is April 3.

Early voting begins April 22 and ends April 29. Absentee ballots can also be requested.

Candidate information will be updated as candidates file.
