City sees increase in 2024 calls for service, crime cases

by | Feb 20, 2025 | Latest

The Farmersville Police Department reported a significant rise in calls for service and certain crime statistics in 2024 compared to the previous year, according to newly released data.

Calls for service in 2024 reached 9,178, marking an increase from 6,134 in 2023. Despite the rise in service calls, violent crime in the city remained stable. There were no homicides or robberies reported in either year. However, assaults increased by 100%, rising from 24 in 2023 to 48 in 2024. The number of thefts and burglaries remained unchanged at 48 and 24, respectively, across both years. Motor vehicle thefts also stayed steady, with two cases reported in both 2023 and 2024.

The number of traffic stops saw a sharp increase, nearly doubling from 1,777 in 2023 to 3,707 in 2024. This uptick in traffic enforcement could have contributed to a rise in other offense categories. For example, the number of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) arrests more than doubled, from 12 in 2023 to 32 in 2024.

In terms of criminal cases, there was a marked increase in both felony and misdemeanor cases. Felony cases rose from 22 in 2023 to 67 in 2024, while misdemeanor cases surged from 22 to 405.

The number of major accidents also saw a rise, increasing from 82 in 2023 to 96 in 2024. Minor accidents experienced a smaller increase, growing from 89 to 104. Additionally, alarm calls were up slightly, from 119 in 2023 to 124 in 2024.

The Farmersville Times will update this story as more information about the year-to-year changes becomes available.
