Organizations dedicated to service often begin by setting goals, typically ones that are attainable but not necessarily easy to achieve.
Rotary clubs are no exception to this time-honored principle. The Farmersville Rotary Club, led this year by President Robin Edwards, has set membership growth and increased community involvement as key objectives.
Goals often come from the top. In this case, “the top” refers to District 5810 Governor Regina Edwards—no relation to Robin Edwards. Governor Edwards spoke to the Farmersville Rotary Club on Feb. 25, offering a simple growth objective for the North Texas district: she aims for a net growth of four clubs and 100 members.
District 5810, which covers the Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area, is the smallest geographic district in Texas. It currently has 2,436 members, an increase of 31 members from the previous Rotary year. Rotary’s year runs from July 1 to June 30.
Edwards also highlighted a recent Rotary district mission trip, during which clubs delivered 37 wheelchairs to Cozumel, Mexico. Prior to her speech, she engaged in an open discussion with Farmersville Rotary Club board members about potential goals.
Governor Edwards, a member of the Rotary Club of Carrollton-Farmers Branch, has been a Rotarian for 26 years. During that time, she has participated in more than 20 Rotary International trips to six countries. She is a Paul Harris Fellow, a Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member, and a Rotary Benefactor.
Edwards earned both her bachelor’s and law degrees from Baylor University. She has worked as a municipal attorney for more than 30 years. She and her husband, Ken—a retired test engineer and also a Paul Harris Fellow—have two sons in college, both of whom are Eagle Scouts.
The Farmersville Rotary Club meets at noon every Tuesday at the O.C. Carlisle Civic Center. If you are interested in joining this dynamic club contact President Robin Edwards (972) 784-7770.
