Fresh off allowing 11 runs to District 13-4A leader Community in an 11-7 loss, the Farmersville baseball team had confidence that senior left-hander Mason Erwin could help to right the ship for the Farmers in Friday’s rematch.
Erwin delivered and then some in Farmersville’s 2-1 home win, allowing four hits and one run to go along with six strikeouts over seven sharp innings.
“He’s just really good,” said Jon Nordin, Farmersville head coach. “He doesn’t have a big arm, but he’s not scared of anything. He’s won big games. He’s played in playoff games for us, and nothing fazes him.
“We made a couple of defensive mistakes tonight that could have beat us. We dropped a pop up and had a ground ball to shortstop that we mishandled. We’re never going to be perfect, but he can handle all of that.”
In the fourth inning, senior Jahir Vanegas lined the first pitch that he saw into center field for an RBI single, bringing in the go-ahead run for the Farmers, who gained a 2-1 lead.
