NEVADA – The Farmers opened Friday night with strong energy but were unable to recover from a dominant third-quarter run by Community High School, falling 60-45 in a District 13-4A matchup on the road.

Farmersville entered the game at 23-6 overall and 3-5 in district play, looking to gain momentum heading into Tuesday’s regular-season finale against Ford Quinlan.

The Farmers started sharp in the opening quarter. After trailing 6-2 early, Ethan Stone knocked down a three-pointer to cut the deficit, and Kayleb Cuellar banked in a three to tie the game at 8-8. Tavian Smith added another triple to give Farmersville an 11-8 lead, and the Farmers capitalized on a technical foul free throw late in the period to take a 12-8 advantage into the second quarter.

The second period turned into a back-and-forth battle. Smith attacked the rim for tough finishes, including a drive and a floater to keep Farmersville in front briefly. Stone answered a three from the Braves with one of his own to tie the game at 20, and Marquis Oshodi gave the Fighting Farmers a short-lived 22-21 lead with a bucket inside. However, Community closed the half on a strong note, taking a 26-22 lead into the break.

Community opened the second half on a scoring surge, building a 20-point advantage as Farmersville struggled to find offensive rhythm. The Braves converted transition opportunities and free throws to extend the margin to 42-22 before the Farmers were able to get back on the board.

Farmersville showed resilience late in the quarter with free throws and an and-one finish to trim the deficit, but Community maintained control and carried a 47-28 lead into the final period.

In the fourth, the Farmers continued to compete despite facing a 20-point deficit. Stone battled for a tough rebound and putback, and Oshodi added key baskets down the stretch. Oshodi led Farmersville with 14 points, while Stone added six.

Despite the loss, head coach Kingsley Akinwole credited his team’s effort and emphasized growth moving forward.

“We came out with good energy and executed early,” Akinwole said. “The third quarter hurt us — we lost our defensive intensity and let them get comfortable in transition. But I’m proud of our guys for continuing to compete. We’ve got one more game on Tuesday, and our focus is finishing strong.”

Farmersville will return home Tuesday night to face Quinlan Ford in its final regular-season game.
