Mrs. Lane Smith McDonald Cauthen, 85, of Farmersville, passed away June 17, 2026.
Born May 28, 1941, in Farmersville to Tommie C. and Madge (Currin) Smith, Lane lived a life defined by faith, service and compassion. She graduated from Farmersville High School and East Texas State University, where she served as president of the Chi Omega Sigma Zeta Chapter.
Lane devoted more than 30 years to elementary education in Blue Ridge, Community and Princeton ISD, touching countless lives as a teacher, mentor and encourager. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and Bethlehem Baptist Church of Farmersville and volunteered at Grace Fellowship.
She found joy in tending her flower gardens, playing the piano, teaching music and sharing kindness with others. Whether through a song, a lesson or a simple act of generosity, Lane made those around her feel loved and valued.
She is survived by her daughters, Kerri McDonald Todd and Melissa McDonald Horn and husband Jason; granddaughter Whitney Ellis; and great-grandson Kayden Ellis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alphard Nelson Cauthen; her parents, Tommie C. and Madge Smith; and her sisters, Raenelle Hanes and Tommie Sue Johnson.
A visitation will be held at Hurst’s Fielder-Baker Funeral Home from 6:00–8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at First Baptist Church of Farmersville, with interment to follow at IOOF Cemetery.
Lane’s legacy lives on in the generations she taught, the music she shared, the flowers she nurtured and the countless lives she brightened through her faith and kindness.
