A fatality accident claimed the lives of three Celeste residents Friday, March 9.

According to information released by Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol Lt. Lonny Haschel, Troopers were called to the scene of a two vehicle crash at 4:10 p.m. on FM 981, approximately three miles east of Hwy. 78 near Blue Ridge.

Preliminary information indicates a 2015 Ford F-150 was traveling east on FM 981, driven by Paul Schumacher, 57, from Celeste. A 2013 Ford F-150 pickup was traveling west on FM 981, driven by William Webb, 48, from Celeste. Also in the vehicle was passenger Karen Spannagel, 46, from Celeste. For an as yet undetermined reason, the eastbound pickup driven by Schumacher crossed the center line and struck the westbound Ford pickup.

Both Schumacher and Spannagel died at the scene of the accident. Webb was transported by air ambulance to Medical City Plano with serious injuries. He later died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
