The myth of summer break: Teachers spend summer volunteering, working

Have you ever wondered what teachers do during the summer?

Many people focus on how students spend their break, forgetting perhaps the most important figures in the school district – teachers. Teachers, though, are just as affected when school is no longer in session.

Lots of teachers use summer as a chance to catch up on much-needed time with their families.

“My dog and husband kind of get neglected during the school year,” said Marcy Whited, sixth grade science and robotics teacher at Farmersville Junior High. “I spend time with them, my 90-year-old mother, cousins and everyone.”
