Two state district judges made a presentation to county commissioners recently in which they pointed out the need to establish additional district courts in Collin County as caseloads continue to grow.
Making the presentation were Judge Andrea Thompson, District 416, and Judge Emily Miskel, District 470.
Collin County currently is served by 11 district courts, the last two added in 2015. The Texas Legislature establishes the courts and judges are selected by election to serve 4-year terms.
A state district court handles felony criminal cases, civil suits, family law and juvenile cases. The judges reported that the caseload for district courts serving the county has been increasing at a rate of six percent per year.
