A three-year battle to restrict the use of a 34-acre tract of land for an Islamic cemetery ended last Thursday.

In a special meeting Thursday, Sept. 20 Farmersville City Council unanimously approved a settlement with the Islamic Association of Collin County which will allow the group to move forward with its development of the property.

The land overlooks Lake Lavon and is in the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction located along Hwy. 380 and CR 557.

The city’s attempts to block the cemetery ended after it approved the settlement, reversed last year’s decision to disapprove the tract’s preliminary plat and approved the preliminary plat.
