The city spent more than $42,000 in legal fees associated with the Islamic Association of Collin County cemetery planned west of town along Hwy. 380.

The city estimated $42,000 was spent over the three year period with involvement of the IACC cemetery.

Information obtained through public information requests by The Times show $25,545 in legal fees paid to Brown and Hofmeister, LLP. during Fiscal Year 2017-18 in regard to the cemetery. A total of $95,000 for the law firm was budgeted for the city in the same time period.

“It has to come from somewhere,” City Manager Ben White said. White emphasized that he works at the council’s authority and their priorities. If the legal fees were not spend they could go back into the general fund for streets and administration.
