Play prompts conversations about racism today vs. 1960s

As the curtains opened and the lights dimmed, Farmersville High School students were immersed in the world of dance, music and lines associated with the Broadway hit, “Hairspray.”

For the first time in years, the FHS theater department premiered the musical originally made into a movie directed by John Waters.

In the play, overweight high school student Tracy Turnblad has dreams of going on the ‘Corny Collins Show.’ Eventually this dream is realized, and Tracy has a new dream: for the all white cast to become integrated for all races.
