Credit card fee not exactly convenient for some

The Farmersville City Council, responding to a concern raised by a resident at an earlier council meeting, has agreed to revisit in six months a plan to charge residents a fee for paying their utility bills via credit cards.

At issue is a city policy that charges a convenience fee to residents who use credit cards to pay their bills. City Manager Ben White reminded council members at their Feb. 22 meeting that residents also can pay with checks or with cash and, thus, avoid paying the convenience fee. Or, he said, residents can set up draft accounts through their banking institutions that allow the city withdraw money to cover current payment requirements.
