Farmersville avenged last year’s playoff loss to Caddo Mills on Friday with a 29-23 win over the Foxes from Caddo Mills.
The winning touchdown came from an unlikely source.
Freshman quarterback Sebastian Redwine was elevated to the Farmers’ varsity earlier in the week because of an injury that kept senior back-up quarterback Paxon Graves out of Friday’s game.
With starting quarterback Levi McAbee having to sit out two plays so that a team trainer could remove blood from his hands, Redwine stepped in and threw a touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Drake Grimes.
The touchdown was set up a fumble recovery by Farmersville.
It was the sixth straight win for Farmersville (6-1, 3-0), which is one-half game ahead of Van Alstyne (3-3, 2-0) for first place in District 5-4A Div. II.
Farmersville hosts Van Alstyne next Friday at 7 p.m.
