SULPHUR SPRINGS — The Farmersville volleyball team wishes it could’ve had a do-over of the first two sets of Tuesday’s Class 4A Division II bi-district match against Pleasant Grove.
While they showed more resolve in the third set, the inability to get a side-out and string together many scoring runs proved tough for Farmersville to overcome in a season-ending 14-25, 9-25, 20-25 loss at Sulphur Springs High School on Nov. 5.
“I think that it was just a lot of nerves,” said Arian May, Farmersville head coach. “Whenever you’re in moments like this, you don’t know how the kids are going to react. Everyone was kind of scattered for a couple of sets and didn’t have that confidence. They finally got that confidence somewhere in the third set, but it was just a little too late.”
Farmersville’s chances at forcing a fourth set looked good after Purser notched a kill for a 15-14 Lady Farmers lead.
However, a few errors by the Lady Farmers followed, and that prevented Farmersville from building on their advantage. Pleasant Grove rallied with an 11-5 run, with a block by senior Ellis Miller ending the match.
Farmersville finished the season with a 27-16 record.
“These seniors, I feel for them, because it’s a tough way to end it for them,” May said. “But we have a lot of kids who got that experience for the first time, and it will help them.”
