All season, the Farmersville football team has gotten big plays from their offense.
That was certainly again the case during Friday’s Class 4A-Division II bi-district playoff game against Canton. The Farmers put 377 yards of total offense and got two touchdowns apiece from sophomore quarterback Levi McAbee and sophomore wide receiver/running back Amare Warren.
And for as many great plays as the Farmers churned out on offense, their defense took center stage. Farmersville held Canton to without a point and 217 total yards of offense in a 27-0 shutout victory from Garland’s Williams Stadium.
Friday night also marked a milestone for the Farmers. Farmersville earned their first playoff win since 2016 – a goal that the program had been working for ever since Zac Quinlan was hired as head coach in 2022.
McAbee threw for 211 yards on 12-of-17 through the air with two touchdown passes. Grimes caught six balls for 129 yards to pace Farmersville’s receiving corps. Warren added two pass receptions for 60 yards. Senior Rafe McComack powered the Farmers’ rushing attack with 86 carries on 15 carries. Junior tail back Gordon Swartz also had 15 carries, going for 58 yards on the night.
Farmersville (8-3) will play Texarkana-Pleasant Grove (9-2) in the area round next week.
